Cause and Effect

In reading class for the last few weeks, we have been practicing finding the Cause and Effect.  One activity we did was read The Snowy Day by Ezra Jack Keats and made our own Cause and Effect flip book. They came out great! 

Mammal Research

Our class is learning how to write a report. Since we are learning about mammals in science, we have chosen to research beavers.  Writing a research report takes a lot of hard work! We are using books, pictures, videos, websites, and a taxidermied beaver from the science center to learn interesting facts. We are even learning to put those facts into our own words. When we finish our research, we will put it all together into a class book.  

We named him Timber.... Timmy for short.

Dr. Seuss Day

We had such fun yesterday celebrating Dr. Seuss Day! Thank you to Laura, a high school student, who came in and read to our class.

Reminder

Just a reminder that there is no school tomorrow, March 1.  Also, Wednesday is Dr. Seuss day. To celebrate, kids can wear their craziest socks!! 

Math Block

I'm so proud of my first graders! They have been working so hard.  In math, we have been learning about a difficult concept... Regrouping. Here are some of room 109's students working with connecting cubes to show regrouping when adding a one digit number to a two digit number.

The Solar System

We have been very busy in our class learning about the Solar System.  We have focused our learning on specifically the sun, moon, and earth.  We have also been studying seasonal patterns as well as patterns of the motion of the sun and starts in the sky.  Your child's solar system folder will be coming home on Friday. Check out all the great things we have learned!

100th Day of School

Tomorrow is the 100th day of school.  We will do a couple of in school activities to recognize the 100th day, but in first grade, our real celebration is on the 120th day of school!  More news on what is needed for the 120th day of school coming soon!

Updated Lunch Menu

The cafeteria staff has notified us of a change in the January lunch menu.  On Tuesday's, the alternate lunch will be chicken sandwich rather than grilled cheese.
