Upcoming Learning

Reading Comprehension Strategy: We spent last month learning about making inferences while we read.  This month, we are focusing on identifying the main idea and details.

Fundations: We have learned a number of new glued sounds- ank, ink, onk, unk, ang, ing, ong, ung. We are practicing how to accurately read and write these types of words.  We will also be adding suffixes to these words.

Math: We have completed our unit of Extending the Counting Sequence to 120.  We practiced writing numbers up to 120.  We practiced starting at any number and counting up to 120.  We practiced counting by 1's, 2's, 5's, and 10's.  Practice this at home with your child!  Has your child mastered this already? Challenge them by starting at any number and count on by 10. For example: 23, 33, 43, 53, 63, 73, 83, 93, 103, 113. Our current unit is Understanding Place Value.

Science:  We just started or unit on Patterns in the Sky.  We will observe and describe patterns of motion between the sun, moon, and stars in relation to the Earth. We also just started our Chick Hatching unit.  Incubators and eggs will be arriving at the very end of the month.  The kids are very excited to be getting chicks as a class pet!

School Wide Contest:  The class that collects the most Box Tops wins a pajama pizza party!  Send in box tops in baggies of 20.  Contest ends May 5th.

We are so proud to have finally finished our Personal Narratives! We chose a title, illustrated a cover, and wrote an About the Author page.  Then, we shared our writing with a group of peers.  This piece of writing will be sent home at the end of the year.
